Creating an immersive travel experience in browser for Marriott Bonvoy

Marriott Bonvoy Traveler worked with The Charles Group to develop a series of editorial web pages that were part of a broader content marketing program called ‘Travel Better.’ There were two distinct challenges our team needed to solve:

  1. How do you create a digital experience that gives travelers a taste of the location before ever hitting ‘book now’?

  2. How do you develop a set of templates flexible enough that every article in the series feels custom and unique to the destination?

Before starting any UX/UI, I worked directly with the Marriott Bonvoy team and Getty photographers to develop a shotlist and art direction to bring each location to life through sound, texture, and movement. The first article in the series was about the Burren region of Ireland and needed to evoke the rich history, wild beauty, and farm-to-table lifestyle that can be found.

A combination of interviews, ambient audio, interactive maps, and sensorial imagery helped weave a distinct and authentic narrative for each of the six locations featured: Ireland, Costa Rica, Vancouver, Hawaii, Great Barrier Reef, and Dubai.

The ‘Travel Better' series was a finalist for the 2022 Shorty Impact Awards in the ‘Branded Content’ category.
